Spice Garden

SPICE GARDEN:

Dear friends during my tour to Kerala, I visited Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary, there we got an information that in Thekkary Spice gardens are located, where all the different types of Spices and Ayurvedic plants are planted. The owner or it's worker will give the demonstration of the spices.

Then only I came to know the following things

King of Spices: Pepper

This Pepper is available in 3 different colors Black, White and Green. Usually we all will be aware of Black Pepper only. But these different varieties of Pepper are prepared by processing the same seed in different ways. From these Pepper seed once they dries oil also can be extracted.

Queen of Spices: Cardamom

Cardamom seeds will grow at the end of the stem. Small purple and white color flowers will come and then finally seed will come. These seeds will not be dried in natural sunlight because it's smell will go it dried in open sunlight. 
There are 3 different types of Cardamom as shown below



1  Malabar (Kerala)
2  Mysore (Karnataka)
3  Vazhuka

 Bird Chilli:


Bird Chilli also called as Bird's eye Chili. Bird chilies are one of the hottest chilies, ranking 50,000 – 100,000 in the Scoville heat scale. The flowers are greenish white or yellowish white. These chillies are very small in size, but don't go on their size one chilli is more than enough for making vegetable.

Picture shown below is Sugar Killer, which will kill the sweet test of Sugar. Actually one of my friend when he chewed one leaf of this plant and took some Biscuits he was not at all getting sweet test.

Ooty Botanical Garden

Ooty Botanical Garden:

This garden was laid out in 1847 by the Marquis of Tweedale. Garden has covered around 55 acres with Lush green well maintained lawns, rare tree species (the paper bark tree and the monkey puzzle tree - monkeys cannot climb this tree), a 20 million year old tree, different variety of flower bushes and plants, vast range of ferns and orchids etc. A flower show along with an exhibition of rare plant species is held every year in the month of May at this garden. The Garden is maintained by the Horticulture Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu and has a very wide variety of plants that include different types of roses, imported shrubs, rare flowering plants etc.

During Septeber of each year Governer will stay here.
