Taktstang (Tiger Nest)

This is one of the popular monastery in Bhutan also known as The Tiger's Nest. It is located in the upper valley of Paro, Bhutan. This monastery was first built in 1692. As per mythology here Guru Padmasambhava have mediated here for 3 Years, 3 Months, 3 Weeks, 3 Days and 3 Hours in the 8th century. Tsechu a popular festival is celebrated in Paro valley during March or April, this festival is held in honour of Padmasambhava.

On the way to Taktstang few meditation rooms are available, it is difficult to get these rooms as waiting number are sometimes beyond the year. Climbing and getting down to this monastery takes around 4 hours, but if any Bhutanese going he/she will finish it within 2 hours. Around the monastery very good view of near by city and pine forest is available. It's always good to start early in the morning, so that sun-burn can be avoided and with fresh start we can climb fast.

19th April, 1998 this monastery complex was burnt, in which valuable paintings, artifacts and statues also burnt. Then Government of Bhutan and King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuk, oversaw the restoration of the damaged monastery. Nearby area of this Monastery is surrounded by lot of hills which are full of Pine trees.

Tourists Embassy Officials and Indian Military have to produce visitor's permit from the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs (MoHCA).
